Don't get Scammed On Ebay and Paypal.

It is a little known fact that forevery item you postto a buyer, who has paid throughPaypal. Paypaldemand proof of posting in the formof atracking number. Should your item go missing in the postal system and the buyer makes a claim against you.Try telling their automated service form that you have a Certificate of Posting from the Post Office. Impossible. Paypal will debit your account after ten days and there is nothing you can do to stop them.

There are buyers who target certain sellers on ebay with false claims for items lost or damaged. These scamsters will not hita seller more than once. They would be asking for trouble otherwise. They will usually write a threatening emailfirst demanding a refundor they willhit the negative button with bad feedback. This will usually only happen when they have had to sign for the goods they received. Otherwise they will report the matter immediately to Paypal through the ebay system.Power sellers are more at risk from these scamsters because of their need to keep a 98 %positive feedback rating. All scamsters know this.

It is bad practice to leave positive feedback for any item that you have soldbefore the buyer receives the goods. You are leaving yourself open to being abused by fraudsters. Be wary of those buyers who will ask you to post to an address other than that on record with ebay. If in doubt send by recorded delivery.

Buyers who pay by cheque can present another problem. Never post out the goods under a ten day period. A cheque might appear to be cleared after a few days, but the sender has still the power to cancel the cheque for up to aten dayperiod.

The days of personal communication skills and transacting business in a more old fashioned way have long since pasted. Greed has taken root and the money is all that counts in the modern world. I don't personally care if you are a greed merchant or not. But you are not taking me to the cleaners !

Late last year I was stung by two seperate American buyers who managed to get two valuable painting from me and obtain a refund from paypal as well.

A a result of this I removed the Paypal logo from my selling page and I shall definately not be dealing with them again. All ebay sellers should should follow suit anddo likewise until we obtain a better deal.

Selling without Paypal has become a better experience. When I got paid through Paypal in the past I was loosing 5% in fees. Now I am saving that money and it is going directly into my Bank account. The other disadvantage of using paypal is that you have to wait for up to 5 - 7 days for Paypal to transfer YOUR money to your Bank account. In the time it takes Paypal to transfer YOUR money. You are better offjust waiting for your buyer to pay by cheque.

Post Script : The lastest scam involves buyers who purchase two items in the one day. If you combine postage you are leaving yourself open to being scammed. One recent buyer claimed that they only received one item, when in fact both were posted togather in the one package. Fortunately I posted by recorded delivery. A postal certificate would not been much use because this latest scamster was determined to obtain the goods and their money back as well. They reported one item asnot received to ebay in an attempt to claim apart of their money back. If both items were posted without a tracking number being obtained, the scamster would have laughted all the way to the next victim. The majority of your customers on ebay might be decent people, but you can trust nobody when it comes to money. You have to apply the same standard of service to everyone and be mindful that there arecheats about who don't play by the rules.
